{"id":805,"date":"2017-03-24T18:43:29","date_gmt":"2017-03-24T07:43:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monrealescookinginspirations.com\/?p=805"},"modified":"2021-01-30T09:26:31","modified_gmt":"2021-01-29T22:26:31","slug":"green-tomato-pickles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monrealescookinginspirations.com\/index.php\/2017\/03\/24\/green-tomato-pickles\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Tomato Pickles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-806 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/monrealescookinginspirations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/green-tomato-pickle-making-from-my-garden-tomatoes-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/monrealescookinginspirations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/green-tomato-pickle-making-from-my-garden-tomatoes-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/monrealescookinginspirations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/green-tomato-pickle-making-from-my-garden-tomatoes-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/monrealescookinginspirations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/green-tomato-pickle-making-from-my-garden-tomatoes-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/monrealescookinginspirations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/green-tomato-pickle-making-from-my-garden-tomatoes.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This recipe is my dear departed grandmother Edna&#8217;s, I have been making them for years,\u00a0they are so delicious, and can be served with meat, or on a ham or cheese sandwich to add that extra zing!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Ingredients:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3kg green tomatoes, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 kg brown onions, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>3 tbsp salt<\/li>\n<li>3 cups cider vinegar<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tsp freshly ground black pepper<\/li>\n<li>1 kg sugar (if you are health conscious add a little less, but the vinegar &amp; sugar preserve the pickles)<\/li>\n<li>8 tbsp cider vinegar, extra<\/li>\n<li>3 tbsp curry powder, level not heaped<\/li>\n<li>3 tbsp mustard powder, level not heaped<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Combine the tomatoes and onions in a bowl, sprinkle with salt and mix well.\u00a0 Cover and leave to stand overnight.<\/li>\n<li>The next day, drain off the liquid.<\/li>\n<li>Place the tomatoes and onions in a large saucepan, add the vinegar, pepper and sugar and bring to the boil.\u00a0\u00a0 Boil for 60 minutes, stirring often.<\/li>\n<li>Mix the extra vinegar with dry spices and stir into the green tomato and onion mixture.<\/li>\n<li>Boil for 5 minutes or until thickened and well combined.<\/li>\n<li>Pour into sterilised jars and seal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can eat these\u00a0amazing pickles immediately or store in a cool, dry and dark place for up to 2 years.\u00a0 Along with my zucchini pickles these have to be my favourite!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><em>Don&#8217;t forget to leave a comment for me when you make them and let me know how you enjoyed my recipe I love feedback.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This recipe is my dear departed grandmother Edna&#8217;s, I have been making them for years,\u00a0they are so delicious, and can be served with meat, or on a ham or cheese sandwich to add that extra zing!
